Birch Bay Commericial Real Estate
Birch Bay commercial real estate gets a boost from new businesses as the area changes from a resort location to a residential town with supporting new companies and buildings.
Birch Bay’s Terrell Creek Landing Sees First Tenant DAVE GALLAGHER
Being first at something is usually a good thing in business, but sometimes it’s tough when it comes to being first in a new building.
Last week Susan and Patric Bush opened Birch Bay Hair Care in the Terrell Creek Landing on the corner of Birch Bay Drive and Alderson Road. The building has 12 residential condominium units and eight retail spaces, but Birch Bay Hair Care is the first business in the mixeduse development, which was started in February 2006 and recently completed.
"Well, it is a little quiet in terms of neighbors, but we know that will change,” said Susan Bush. “This is such a nice-looking building on a busy corner of Birch Bay, and this area has such a need for many new business services.”
Gina Weigum, who developed Terrell Creek Landing with her husband, Marc, said there has been a fair amount of interest in the other seven retail spaces, which are each about 1,200 square feet. They recently landed a property management and rental company called Outstanding Properties as a tenant.
"It’s funny, the phone has really started ringing since the sun has started coming out,” Weigum said. “We really want to be careful on who we sign as tenants for retail spaces so it doesn’t become a problem with the residents of the condos. We also want to have some long-term tenants in these spots, businesses that the community will support.”
Bush said Birch Bay needs a hair salon, particularly since the area has moved away from being a tourism area to more of a residential community.
There are 7,000 people living around here year-round, and many of them have been talking about the need for basic business services,” Bush said. “Because of that basic need, we want to offer a variety of services, from barber- style haircuts to hair-coloring to perms.” |
